Stockholm Snipers IF blir Stockholm All Stripes Sports Club

Stockholm All Stripes historia går tillbaka till 2003, då hbtq-ishockeylaget Stockholm Snipers bildades.

Stockholm Snipers IF becomes Stockholm All Stripes Sports Club

Stockholm Snipers IF, one of Sweden’s largest LGBTQIA+ sports associations and the largest that offers a multitude of sports, is now changing its name to Stockholm All Stripes Sports Club to better reflect the association’s values and focus. In connection with the name change, we are planning a raft of activities - among them open days this autumn where those curious about our sports can try out the activities we offer. But first, we are focusing on the upcoming Eurogames in Copenhagen in August, where members from Stockholm All Stripes will compete in athletics, badminton, bowling and football.

The history of Stockholm All Stripes dates back to 2003, when the LGBTQ ice-hockey team Stockholm Snipers was founded. In 2006, it changed from being a pure ice-hockey association to a sports association in order to be able to offer several sports. Since then, it has grown to become one of Sweden’s largest LGBTQ+ sports association. At the annual meeting in March 2021, the members decided to change the association’s name to Stockholm All Stripes Sports Club to better reflect our values and focus.

“We had for some time felt that the old name, which was perfect for an ice-hockey team, was no longer a good fit for our association and that it didn’t reflect our values,” says Lina Lindfors, chair of the board of Stockholm All Stripes. “Last year, we therefore initiated work to come up with proposals for a new name and then held a vote among our members where Stockholm All Stripes Sports Club became the winning alternative. We’re incredibly happy to now be able to present our new name and logotype, and hope that this name change will also serve as a wonderful fresh start for our association when the pandemic now seems to be coming to an end.”

The new name , Stockholm All Stripes, is a reference to the rainbow and the rainbow flag, as in the words all stripes of the rainbow. It’s also a reference to the idiom of all stripes, or of all kinds, to highlight that our association is a place both for a multitude of sports but also for people of different backgrounds and everything that is included within LGBTQIA+.

“The name thus alludes both to individuality and to the fellowship, community and strength that is created when these sports and individuals meet and together form an entity,” says Lina Lindfors.

Stockholm All Stripes offers athletics, badminton, bowling, floorball, men’s football, volleyball and women’s football, including regular training and the possibility to compete both in Sweden and abroad. For example, several of our sections – badminton, bowling and football - plan to participate in this year’s Eurogames, which are held in Copenhagen in August.

At Stockholm All Stripes, all people – regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, religion or age can practise sports in an environment that is free from all forms of harassment or discrimination and that encourages fair play, openness and friendship. We welcome all openminded people – beginners as well as those who have practised for a while or who want to compete within their respective sports.

After the summer, and when the pandemic restrictions allow it, we will come back with information about different activities in connection with our name change, such as open days within our sports.

During the pandemic, many sections have had to pause practice and competitions and we look forward to restart our activities this autumn and welcome new members to our association.
